Why would a Dog( or cat) have anxiety issues?
Anxiety is a fear or worry about a situation that may or may not happen. Sound familiar? Anxiety in animals is the same as it is for people....the fear of the unknown. In people we consider it a natural emotion that alerts us to a possible danger should the situation go differently than we hope. These feelings can cause problems in people...and in our dogs!
Dogs are creatures of habit....they like when things go customary to the way they feel safe and in control. Take for instance. They get fed when you are home....but what happens when you leave the house! Oh my~! Where will I get my food from! Whose going to take me out? It's too quiet! I can hear the cat next door~!
They feel at ease when their humans are home, so it’s not unexpected that feelings of separation anxiety will surface when they’re left alone. This is the most common type of anxiety pets suffer from.
Dogs like normalcy....a significant change in their environment will likely lead to a case of unknown for your dog and who-la! Anxiety.
There are many changes or situations that can lead to anxiety and sometimes, more than one at a time! (Imagine you've left Spot or Fi-Fi home alone and all of a sudden it starts to thunder! Arrrrrrrrggghhhhh! #underthebed
